EDiJ 9: Draw Something Green

I’m catching up on my EDiJ drawings this morning. This is EDiJ 9, Draw Something Green. This is a real highway sign that gives me a laugh every time I drive by.

“Warp Drive” Pencil, Inktense, India ink, Watercolor. 6×6″

I had some fun experimenting with this one. The Inktense “soluble ink” pencils are supposed to be permanent after they dry, but I had my doubts. But it’s true! After I drew the braces behind the sign and got them wet and let them dry, I painted a light wash of blue over the entire background and the Inktense remained entirely intact. This is good news because in the past, working with straight watercolor, I would meticulously paint around each girder.

I also decided that for larger expanses of color (like the green here), I will use watercolor and not the pencils, so I end up with a smother finish.
